Old records from the early 60s and even from before they were published with a copyright date on them. Have Elvis, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Roy Acuff, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Temptations, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, George Jones, …. way too many for me to remember all of the artists that i have.
Try used record or book stores. As far as getting ripped off, most of those albums aren’t worth nearly as much as you think. They might be 40 years old, but it’s not as though you have the only copies ever made.

How much should i sell these albums for ? I have no clue.
I’d compare it to what other people are selling it for online.. look at good album shops as well as those on ebay and the such to get a good idea.. they sometimes go for a lot !

I found a bunch of old vinyl records from 1965 to 1975, i was just wondering if they were worth any money?
Depends on the condition and rarity. Mint condition records (with playback being the primary driving factor) are worth much more than standard condition "Very Good" records. Many times 4 X as much or greater.
You have to learn how to grade records (according to the Goldmine grading standard) and check the "closing" auction prices on eBay … not the listing. All that counts is what people are paying cash money for at the present time (known as the "market value"). You can list a record for any value you want but you have to have someone willing to pay for it at that price.

Just been playing some old vinyl LPs and it occurred to me that wear is taking place (derrr!). How many atoms are stripped from the stylus and groove of the record per second do you think (thousands, millions)? Yes, I know, I must have been listening to really boring stuff!
Serious question. Any answers or theories?
My resident expert says 17.36 atoms per second, and 4 nano watts of EMP = electromagnetic pulse has been measured one nanometer from the center of the friction Neil

various ones like:
frankie laine
Coleman Hawkikns
Frank Sinatra
Vaughn Monroe
Roy Hamilton
and many more…
over 200
some are dated back to 1908 how would i know which ones are worth something or not?
Collectors will pay for that especially if it is still on good condition. Look for the titles in ebay to get an idea of how much it costs.

I was wondering about how they played at 33 and a third rpm and it would seem like the needle(when on the first track) was meeting a lot more "stuff" because the outer edge of the album was moving faster then the inner part.
tom- I held one of those once. they’re pretty heavy. Yes…Thank God for cd’s! but even those will probably fade away as music can be had anywhere now without them.
What you are referring to is IGD or Inner Groove Distortion. The music would start to distort slightly on some records when the needle gets closer to the last tracks.
Much of this is dependent on the quality of your turntable & cartridge combo.
I do not have any IGD on my TT/cartridge combo (that I can detect audibly) because I use a an Audio Technica 440MLa with a MicroLine® shaped diamond tip for better high frequency response with less wear and distortion than elliptical or conventional linear contact styli.

Ive noticed the old vinyl records hold anything from 5 to 10 songs per side on a 12 inch disc, but ive been recently buying vinyl albums of new bands, and they normally ahve 3 songs per side.. i find it too short and having to swap sides to quickly. why is this is there a reason?
It is called greed. The do the same thing with compact discs. I have seen some LP’s with one song only.

I have a stack of old vinyl records that I am haven’t played in over 20 years. Recently I inspected them, they have alot of smudge and dirt marks.
Any ideas for cleaning them without damaging the records. I don’t think CD shops sell vinyl cleaning fluid.
Thanks.
This home brew cleaner will work as good as many commercial record cleaners on the market. It does not take strong solvents to clean vinyl … commonly available cleaners (heavily diluted) will work extremely well.
Make two solutions … combine the following cleaners with distilled water in two separate bottles. Make sure to use distilled water and not tap water … to avoid depositing contaminants on the vinyl.
1. Mix 1 Part Resolve Spray and Wash to 20 Part Distilled water.
2. Mix 1 Part Enzymatic cleaner (BioKleen General Purpose Cleaner) or other safe gentle liquid enzymatic cleaners … free of dyes and fragrance … to 32 Part distilled water.
Apply 1st cleaner to vinyl record. Use a paint brush to spread cleaner uniformly over the record … let SOAK for 2 minutes. Rinse off with distilled water and soft cotton towel or high quality microfiber auto detail cloth.
Apply 2nd cleaner. Use a paint brush to spread cleaner uniformly over the record …. let SOAK for 2 minutes. Rinse off with distilled water and soft cotton towel or high quality microfiber auto detail cloth.
Let the record dry on a dish rack … several hours or overnight before playing.

I have about 200 old records in their jackets. I was wondering what to do with them.
I would donate them to a thrift store like Goodwill or Salvation Army. I like looking for old records at places like that.
